Here's why the entire world economy will REALLY crash in a few years.

"Microsoft plans Office subscription service"

"Code-named Albany, the product has a single installer that puts Office Home and Student, OneCare, as well as a host of Windows Live services, onto a user's PC. As long as users keep paying for the subscription, they are entitled to the latest versions of the products. Once they stop paying, they lose the right to use any version."

"Evidence mounting: Windows 7 going modular, subscription"

"Does this mean that Microsoft will ask you to subscribe to the next version of Windows, as opposed to buying it? That's unlikely, unless you're in business. The next consumer release will likely be a standalone OS stocked with an array of built-in and subscription-only modules."

--

Imagine what chaos this would cause! 1 (or none!) computer in every house. Businesses large and small being required to subscribe to every single computer in their offices. What about nonprofits? And there's nothing you can do about it, since Linux is annoying and hard to use for most people, Mac refuses to lower their prices, and because you (were basically forced to) agreed to the stupid license. The entire economy of America, and many other countries, runs on Microsoft products. Down, down we go! :applause_ :sarc:

Yea, watch as M$ Office becomes the former #1 office program.

Open Office will take the #1 spot so fast M$ will be shocked. Anybody currently paying $$ for M$ Office is a fool.

If you haven't tried Open Office you should. It is free, it is easy to use, it runs in Windows, most people wouldn't even know they weren't using M$ Office.

Why pay $$ for the same thing you can get for free?

I hope they do make all their stuff subscription.
It would make open source the default source, in the blink of an eye...

I use OpenOffice, but only because MS Office is too expensive for me. I hate how slow OpenOffice is. If I had/wanted to spend that much money on MS Office, I would.

But Windows 7, being the operating system itself, will create far, far more damage.

Hardly. Linux is still difficult to use and is not 100% compatible with software and hardware. In fact, if every workstation computer was remodeled for Linux hardware compatibility and Ubuntu thrown on it, the costs would probably be worse due to (1) all employees in the company needing training for a new operating system and (2) businesses with no IT department, including small town Ma-and-Pa jobs, being required to subscribe to Indian tech support.

And, like I said, given Apple's recent popularity, if they ditched the elitism and decided to compete with Dell, Windows would be gone forever. I'd love to buy a Mac, but it's just way too expensive, and due to their "solid state" nature they cannot be repaired except by Apple. :banghead:

Luckily microsoft is already so hated that many people will resist it.

I will switch entirely to Linux on the day Microshit stops supporting XP.

OO takes hardly longer. MSO has the advantage since it uses parts of the MS OS itself (which is already running).

Try OO on Linux. OO is a product of Sun Microsystems, which makes the world's best UNIX machines.

This is morbid strike number two. Vista was morbid strike number one.

I wonder when Billy Boy Gates will strike out? With what? Windows 7?

Unless the government backs it because they want to control everyone.

I would love to see Micro$ux crash and burn! Bloated, crappy software foisted on a computer dumb society. M$ actually retards progress because they're not making any progress. They see what everyone else is doing and copy it or buy it and force inferior crap down everyone's throat.

That's why for every programmer that works for M$, there are dozens (if not hundreds) gleefully working to undo/destroy everything M$ pukes up on the public!

Not a huge fan of office 2007 anyways. Interface was changed needlessly.

I've been using PCLinuxOS for a while now and except for a few startup issues, I only go online both wireless and wired from within Linux. There was only a short learning curve, but I'm an old guy and if I can learn it just about anyone with determination should be able to master the operating system. Anything I tried to do like display photos, watch movies, work in Open Office writer or spreadsheet or even impress, which is the equivalent of Powerpoint, and it didn't come with the OS, I found the download easy and didn't even have to reboot the system to get it up and running. It had Firefox installed already, which I was already using even in Windows because it is more secure than anything IE in windows offers.

Fed up with Windows? Download the Linux OS free and burn it to CD or DVD and run it from there without loading it to your hard disk drive. I downloaded about 5-6 different versions before I found PCLinuxOS that worked on my HP laptop. I tried Fedora, Mint, Ubuntu, and a couple others, but HP is as bad as MS Windows about making it difficult to load other OSs on their computers.

If you're stuck with Windows and think you don't have the courage to dive into Linux, well find an older computer and try it on that until you've the confidence it takes to make the switch. I still have XP on my laptop, duel booted with Linux being the main startup OS.

---------------------------------

Same here, except Ubuntu is my backup. Its great for internet surfing and I have it on a separate Hard drive so if my C drive fails Im still able to get online.

Ubuntu isnt that hard to use and its improving all the time.If I had to I would use it full time,IE,if forced to Vista Im going Linux. Just a learning curve is all.Videos are a pain frankly.

Screw Gates,Im fed up with him,no more MS products for me.

I LOVE Open Office,it works great for what I need.

Slackware Linux all the way! But it's not for everyone, as it requires a fair amount of customization. There are other distros out there that are more complete from a desktop user perspective. Probably Ubuntu is one of those, and I'm sure there are others.

Windows needs to die.
